Why access matters in furniture deliveries

When people think about furniture deliveries, they often focus on the size of the furniture.
In reality, the biggest challenge is usually the access.
The same dining table can take 30 minutes to deliver into one home and more than an hour into another. The difference isn't the furniture, it's how we reach its final destination.
Every property is different
A delivery address tells us very little about the complexity of the job.
A ground-floor house may have:
A long gravel driveway
Steep pathways
Steps to the entrance
Narrow hallways
Sharp corners
Delicate timber flooring
An apartment may have:
Lift bookings
Loading dock restrictions
Long internal corridors
Small lifts
Tight stairwells
Even two neighbouring houses can require completely different delivery methods.
Access affects safety
Our first responsibility is to deliver furniture safely.
That means protecting:
The furniture
Our team
Your home or workplace
Existing furniture and finishes
A sofa that can be comfortably carried by three people into a ground-floor home may require four or even five people if it needs to be carried up multiple flights of stairs.
The additional labour isn't about making the job easier—it's about reducing the risk of injury, damage and unnecessary strain.
Every delivery is assessed to ensure the correct number of people and equipment are allocated.
Access affects delivery time
The final few metres of a delivery are often the most time-consuming.
Factors that can significantly increase delivery time include:
Multiple flights of stairs
Spiral staircases
Narrow stairwells
Long walking distances
Restricted parking
Lift waiting times
Difficult driveways
Limited manoeuvring space
These challenges often take longer than the journey to the property itself.
Why access affects delivery costs
One of the most common questions we receive is why access charges apply.
